Before coming to Salem, Pastor Butch served as Senior Pastor at Zwingli UCC, Souderton for 18 and a half years and as Associate Pastor for nine and a half years.  He also served a short time in 2026 as a per diem Chaplain with Vitality Hospice. Ordained in 1995, Butch served First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the Protestant Campus Ministry for the University of Nevada – Las Vegas before moving to Pennsylvania. 
 

Butch earned a B.S. in Chemistry with a Religious Studies minor from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA, a M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Colorado, Boulder, a Master of Divinity degree from Duke University Divinity School and Doctor of Ministry degree from Lancaster Theological Seminary.

Butch serves as a facilitator for a Keystone Conference Community of Practice (pastoral excellence and support group) and is a trained Stephen Ministry Leader.  He was involved with Grand View Hospice as a volunteer chaplain, educational consultant and supporter for nearly 20 years.  Butch was also an instructor for the Pennsylvania Academy of Ministry, teaching an introductory course on Pastoral Care.  He’s the author of several encyclopedia articles and the book Grief and Loss: Your Questions Answered.  Butch is married to Dr. Sally Kuykendall, author and professor. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with their blended family of Matthew, Eva, Mark, Alex, and Emily, as well as hiking, reading, traveling, singing with the Bucks County Choral Society and rooting for the Blue Devils.
